In this joint meeting with the Humanities Informatics Lab's Surveillance & Infrastructure research group, Raf Alvarado (Data Science Institute) will give a presentation on Shoshana Zuboff's book The Age of Surveillance Capitalism, which discusses the relations between global corporations, data collection, democracy, and related issues. You don't need to have read the book beforehand, but there is a link to an article by Zuboff on the same themes here. As usual, lunch will be provided.
